Making the materials the creators ask for

Original techniques and research information

We are researching original techniques and manufacturing methods in order to create new kinds of leather that have never been seen before. Here we will introduce some original methods that we are currently using.

Tanned leather only 0.3mm thick

Tanned leather only 0.3mm thick

This leather is very soft and comfortable to the touch. We use a special method to tan the leather, and then stretch it out to 0.3mm thick. Usually leather so thin would easily tear, but this leather is strong, can be worn directly against the skin, and is washable.

Beef tallow tanning

This leather is tanned with an original method using beef tallow. It has a unique look to it, and develops character over the years.

Heat impregnation

Heat impregnation

Heat is used to work melted beeswax and beef tallow into the leather. Each piece is worked by hand to make a durable leather with a characteristic and classy depth to it, without damaging the leather. It also retains its color well without fading.

Calfskin tanning

Rather than an original technique, this is purely a matter of technical skill. Calfskin is made from calves of around six months old, and is thing with a refined fiber structure and is considered to be of the greatest quality of all leathers.

Making this leather without damaging the material requires superior skill, experience and management, and our company is one of only a few in Japan that can do it.

Other research

Along with other ongoing research, the methods listed here are only a fraction of the whole. We believe that the quality and originality of these materials will add value and character to products.

We hope to come up with even more new techniques in response to customers’ requests, so please contact us with any and all requests you may have.
